The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) Interest Group under the Anatomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA) seeks to promote a more inclusive and diverse environment in anatomical education, research, and professional practice. The group aims to foster awareness, dialogue, and practical action to ensure that equity, diversity, and inclusivity are integrated into the fabric of anatomical sciences across Southern Africa.

 

Purpose

The EDI Interest Group will serve as a dedicated platform to:

 

• Promote awareness of EDI issues in the field of anatomical sciences.
• Encourage the implementation of inclusive practices in anatomical education and research.
• Provide a space for dialogue on population affinity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, and other diversity factors in the context of anatomical sciences.

 

 

Objectives

The key objectives of the EDI Interest Group are:

 

• Education and Awareness: Provide educational resources, workshops, and webinars that raise awareness about EDI issues in anatomy education and research.
• Best Practices: Develop and share best practices for promoting EDI in anatomical education, including recommendations for inclusive teaching methods and research practices.

• Research and Collaboration: Facilitate research and collaboration on topics related to EDI in anatomy (could include developing inclusive anatomical resources and curricula.
